DLA Piper advises game publisher Krafton on Eschatology USD11.3 million Series A lead investment

Global law firm DLA Piper has advised South Korean video game publisher and holding company Krafton on its investment in renowned development studio Eschatology Entertainment. Krafton's investment leads the USD11.3 million Series A round, which also includes GEM Capital and The Games Fund. This follows Krafton's recent lead role in a USD15 million Series A round for UK develop studio Red Rover, also advised by the firm.

Eschatology Entertainment, the Cyprus-based studio, will use the capital injection to further development and launch of its inaugural project, and to establish a publishing team. This funding round follows a previous USD4 million raised by Eschatology, co-led by GEM Capital and The Games Fund.

The DLA Piper team, led by Alexander Kolmakov, partner in the Corporate practice based in the firm's London office, comprised senior associate Irvin Shirvani with Intellectual Property advice provided by partner Duncan Calow and associate Elizabeth Bingham. Harneys team provided support on Cypriot law aspects of the transaction.

Alexander Kolmakov, partner in the Corporate practice at DLA Piper, commented: “This latest strategic investment by Krafton reflects an exciting and dynamic time for both the company, and the wider video games industry, as new projects continue to attract significant interest and investment. It is a pleasure to be a part of their journey, and congratulations to the company and investors and on the closing of the deal. And, to the DLA Piper team who continue to provide strategic and commercially minded counsel at the forefront of the gaming industry.”
