Roderick C. Payne

Rod has extensive experience handling a wide range of oil and gas, construction, employment, sport and commercial litigation matters.

Rod has acted on substantial disputes in the construction industry ranging from power plants and diamond mines to general commercial sites. He also has extensive experience advising on sport litigation and resolution, wrongful dismissal, unfair competition and interference with contractual relations.

Rod has successfully appeared in every level of court in Alberta as well as the Federal Tax Court and Federal Court of Appeal and is a member of the Northwest Territories bar where he litigates construction disputes and advises indigenous and Métis companies and organizations. ‎

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Rod was the Firm Principal at a highly regarded boutique commercial litigation firm in Edmonton, during which time he built a strong reputation for his commitment to quality and integrity while assisting his clients on complex litigation matters. Having spent his formative years in Baghdad, Iraq and educated in the United Kingdom, Rod has a broad, client-centered, global perspective.
