As an insurance defence lawyer and coverage specialist, Bo helps clients resolve their complex insurance disputes in a strategic, timely, and cost-efficient manner. She helps her clients navigate the complex and often nuanced relationship between insurers and insureds.

Bo has developed a specialty in insurance coverage advice and litigation, and works closely with insurance companies and policyholders, offering counsel from when a claim is made to its resolution. Bo provides coverage advice through drafting opinions, reservation of rights letters, and position letters. Further, she assists clients with directing coverage investigations and monitoring the handling of ongoing claims.

Bo is proactive and thoroughly assesses cases at the outset so that clients can realistically determine risk and implement the appropriate strategies to secure their best possible outcome. She is known for her aptitude for legal analysis, ability to quickly distill facts, pragmatic problem-solving skills, and commitment to providing timely, cost-effective, and practical solutions.

Bo has represented clients on matters before various tribunals, the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia and Saskatchewan Courts of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. This experience gives Bo’s clients an advantage because she can quickly identify legal issues, key facts, and potential risks when advising clients.

EXPERIENCE

  • Provided clients with in-depth coverage analysis and advice in the context of a variety of policies, including builder’s risk (course of construction) policies, commercial general liability policies, professional liability policies, property policies (residential and commercial), motor carriers policies and crime and fidelity policies.
  • Coverage counsel on the excess policy issued by Underwriters to provide liability coverage to lawyers sued in a negligence suit, including complex issues such as an insurer’s duty of good faith.
  • Coverage counsel for both insurers and insureds with respect to crime and fidelity insurance and employee theft.
  • Providing coverage opinions on first party property coverage claims by insureds trying to access business interruption coverage due to COVID-19.
  • Coordinating various coverage investigations on complex losses including misrepresentation, breaches of warranties, and intentional acts.
  • Completing in-depth coverage review of re-insurance agreements and the distinguishing principles between them and the underlying policies.
