Howard Krupat, Alan Macek and Kevin Wright recognized in 2025 Lexpert®/ALM 500 Directory

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is pleased to announce that Howard Krupat (Construction), Alan Macek (Intellectual Property), and Kevin Wright (Competition) have been ranked in the 2025 Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. This annual guide includes an exclusive group of lawyers ranked highest in practice areas of importance to an American audience. Selected lawyers are prominent practitioners in their practice areas who enjoy significant recognition from their colleagues.

Howard Krupat leads the Canadian firm’s construction law practice and has extensive experience as ‎counsel on complex construction disputes. Howard is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction ‎Lawyers and a former Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Construction and Infrastructure Section ‎Executive. He is also Chair of the Allied Professions Committee of the Toronto Construction ‎Association. Howard served as an appointed member of the Advisory Panel for the Province of ‎Ontario’s Construction Lien Act Review. He regularly speaks at conferences on construction law and is one of the Program Directors of Osgoode’s Construction Law Certificate Course.‎

Alan Macek has a well-regarded intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution practice, with a focus on electrical and computer-related technology. He has litigated cases in the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court and the Alberta Court of Appeal and his experience in litigation often involves cross-border proceedings. Alan is frequently invited to speak on intellectual property topics including issues for emerging technology such as blockchain/cryptocurrencies and AI/machine learning. He publishes the IPPractice.ca blog on developments in intellectual property in Canada.

Kevin Wright heads the firm’s Competition and Antitrust practice and is a member of the White Collar group. His practice encompasses all aspects of competition law; he regularly engages in merger review, defence of complex criminal and civil investigations, litigating disputes, advancing complaints and structuring compliance. He has been lead ‎counsel in the defence of over 30 class actions across ‎the country. Kevin is an active contributor and leader within the ‎Canadian Bar Association’s Competition Law ‎and Foreign Investment Review Section. For 14 years he has taught competition law as an ‎adjunct professor at the University of British ‎Columbia’s Allard School of ‎Law.‎
