Catherine Gibson appointed Co-chair of the Canadian Real Estate Service Group

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is pleased to announce that Catherine Gibson has been appointed Co-chair of the Canadian Real Estate Service Group. ‎

Catherine is a nationally recognized business lawyer with extensive experience providing strategic advice to her clients on a broad range of commercial and real estate matters. She represents clients across a wide variety of industries including developers, municipalities, public health authorities, forest product companies, restauranteurs, and many others. For her work in real estate law, Catherine has been ranked by prominent lawyer guides Chambers Canada, the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Best Lawyers in Canada. In 2018, was selected by the Women's Executive Network (WXN) Canada’s Most Powerful Women as a Top 100 Award Winner. Catherine previously served as Office Managing Partner of the Vancouver office and as a member of the Canadian firm’s Executive Committee.

Catherine joins Daniel Shapira, in co-chairing the group. In welcoming her to the role, Daniel said, “Since joining the firm, I have benefited greatly from Catherine’s insight and have often observed her importance not only to the real estate group but the firm as a whole. I am thrilled to be co-chairing the group with someone of her experience and accomplishments.”

Catherine succeeds Mark Schmidt who has led the group as both chair and co-chair since 2015. “We are deeply thankful for Mark’s many contributions over his years of leadership,” said Robert Seidel. “During his long tenure, the group has seen tremendous growth and success, in addition to being the recipient of numerous accolades. I look forward to continuing to work with Mark as a partner of the Canadian firm.”
