About

As a Principal Policy Advisor in the DLA Piper Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) practice, Nat Leverages his 15 years + of experience working on Capitol Hill and in the private sector to assist clients with targeted legislative and appropriations strategies.

Nat has a long track record leading some of DLA Piper’s largest and most longstanding federal lobbying clients. Within the Federal Lobbying sector, Nat has extensive experience advising on national security, space and appropriations projects. Nat also has a trusted and respected reputation on Capitol Hill and with his peers.

Nat’s practice focuses on representations of private companies, universities and other stakeholders within the federal appropriations process. Nat also has substantial experience helping companies and stakeholders work within the annual National Defense Authorization “NDAA” process.

Nat is routinely selected as a "Top Lobbyist" by both TheHill.com and the National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics (NILE).

Prior Experience

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Nat served as the Senior Legislative Aide for Congressman Robert E. Andrews, a 12 term veteran of Congress and long-standing member of the House Armed Services Committee and House Education and Workforce Committee. He managed a four-person legislative team that planned and enacted legislative priorities including: H.R. 4853, Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, and H.R. 1540, The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012. Nat maintained a legislative portfolio that includes the following issue areas: Defense/National Security, Appropriations, Budget, Intelligence, Space, Energy, Healthcare, Homeland Security, Financial Services, Education, and Pensions. Nat facilitated member requests as the liaison to the Democratic Steering and Policy committee. Nat worked with bi-partisan government and industry stakeholders to supervise an annual $40 Million Defense appropriations portfolio. Nat also developed the legislative, political and communications strategy for two major legislative accomplishments in the 112th Congress: H.R. 2101, the Weapons Acquisition System Reform through Enhancing Technical Knowledge and Oversight (WASTE TKO) Act, and the H.R. 5013, the IMPROVE Acquisition Act of 2010. Nat maintains an active secret level security clearance with the Department of Defense.
