DLA Piper advises Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG on the sale of the Print Media Academy in Heidelberg

DLA Piper has advised Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG ("Heidelberg") on the sale of the Print Media Academy (PMA) in Heidelberg to a Luxembourg-based investment company as part of its planned site and structural optimization measures. A corresponding purchase agreement has been signed. The sale paves the way for a new, forward-looking use of the building at a central location in the city. Heidelberg is achieving a purchase price in the low double-digit million-euro range.

As an agile, modern company, Heidelberg is committed to short distances and efficient use of space. This means that employees are as close together as possible at the central site in Wiesloch/Walldorf. With this in mind, Heidelberg had already moved the few employees still working at PMA to Wiesloch/Walldorf in 2020.

Heidelberg will retain its headquarters and representative office in rented premises in the PMA and will therefore continue to make company-relevant decisions in the city.

With the proceeds from the sale, Heidelberg can once again strengthen the liquidity in the persistently challenging Covid 19 environment and further increase the financial stability in the long term through future cost savings.

The DLA Piper team was jointly led by partners Fabian Mühlen (Real Estate, Frankfurt) and Dr Benjamin Parameswaran (Corporate/M&A, Hamburg) and comprised of senior associate Moritz Mursa (Cologne) as well as associate Dr Philipp Reclam (Frankfurt, both Real Estate).

The in-house team at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen was led by Sascha Donat (Head of M&A).

The aim of Heidelberg is to ensure the long-term financial stability of the company, and all the measures since the transformation started last year have been geared toward this objective. Under the leadership of partners Dr Benjamin Parameswaran, Dr Henriette Norda and Mike Danielewsky DLA Piper provides comprehensive legal advice for all these measures.
