DLA Piper welcomes Karina Lynch as partner in the Government Affairs and Public Policy Practice

DLA Piper is pleased to welcome partner Karina Lynch to the Government Affairs and Public Policy Practice in the firm’s Washington, DC office, where she will provide policy advice and strategic consulting to life sciences and healthcare clients navigating a rapidly changing policy and regulatory landscape.

Lynch has more than two decades of private practice experience representing Fortune 50 and Fortune 100 companies with a particular focus on healthcare issues. She advises many of the world’s leading biopharma companies, and various leading insurance providers and trade associations. Her practice also includes representing clients facing crises on Capitol Hill.

Prior to moving to private practice, Lynch spent five years on Capitol Hill, where she served as Counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Committee on Government Affairs, under the chairmanship of US Senator Susan Collins.

During her time on the Subcommittee, she worked extensively on hearings related to overpayment settlement negotiations involving the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as well as the effects of Medicare payment systems on the health care industry. Additionally, she was lead counsel on hearings involving the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Lynch also has prior experience serving as investigative counsel to US Senator Charles Grassley and worked on issues related to fraud and abuse in the Medicare and Medicaid systems. She also worked closely with the General Accountability Office to monitor systems compliance at the Social Security Administration and CMS.

“I am thrilled that Karina is joining our growing team to strengthen how we help our clients navigate the changing environment of Washington,” said former US Senator Richard Burr, Principal Policy Advisor and Chair of the firm’s Health Policy Strategic Consulting Practice. “Karina is a deeply respected figure in congressional investigations and knows what makes Congress tick and how congressional oversight staff think. I’ve been on both sides of an investigation with Karina, as an ally and adversary, and there’s no one more tenacious that you’d want on your side when facing a congressional inquiry.”

“Karina was a counsel for me on the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, where she worked on issues ranging from healthcare to money laundering,” said Senator Collins. “She has extensive experience with both oversight and legislation. Karina is an insightful advisor who combines her prowess and proficiency in policy with a deep, practical knowledge of how Congress works.”

“During Karina’s time in my office, her in-depth experience with healthcare issues was particularly valuable,” said Senator Grassley. “I know Karina to be effective and hardworking. DLA Piper is lucky to have her.”

“We are proud to welcome Karina to the firm and know she will bring tremendous energy and quality service to our clients in the health care, congressional investigations and appropriations sectors,” said Steven Phillips, Chair of DLA Piper’s Government Affairs and Public Policy Practice.

“Karina’s addition further distinguishes the firm’s public policy offerings and capabilities across multiple industries and will help our clients understand opportunities and risks as well as advising them as to what’s around the corner,” said William Minor, managing partner of the firm’s Washington, DC office. “We are glad Karina is bringing her renowned knowledge and experience to our distinguished and talented team of policy advisors, and we are pleased to welcome her to the firm.”
