The last few years has seen the dawn of the era of disruption. A confluence of the COVID-19 pandemic, volatile economic conditions and geopolitical change has increased the frequency and intensity of cross-border investigations and disputes. Old threats, such as corruption and fraud, are rising again. It is no longer ‘business as usual’. For Japanese companies operating in Asia, this has created opportunities and risk.

Experts from DLA Piper and FTI will focus upon identifying and managing key risks facing cross-border businesses in the Asia Pacific region:

  • Maurice Burke, DLA Piper Singapore, will address the Recent Trends in Cross-Border Investigations and Disputes
  • Richard Edwards, DLA Piper Australia, will speak on Strategies for Managing Complex Cross-Border Disputes – the relationship between international arbitration and domestic court proceedings.
  • Tony Andriotis, DLA Piper Japan, will present on A Multinational Approach to Evidence, Witnesses and Privilege: Using the Common/Civil Law Divide Advantageously in Cross-Border Disputes and Investigations
  • Yukari Nakajima, FTI Consulting, will speak on Digital Forensics and eDiscovery in Cross-border investigations

*With the exception of a short presentation by Ms. Yukari Nakajima of FTI, which will be given in Japanese and summarized in English, the rest of the session will be conducted exclusively in English.
