About

Ginevra Righini is a bilingual English/Italian intellectual property lawyer specialised in geographical indications (GIs), trademarks, designs and domain names.

She have extensive experience assisting Italian and foreign GI producer groups with the global protection and enforcement of GIs, and in October 2024, was appointed Dame Chevalier de l’Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne in recognition of her contributions to the protection of the PDO Champagne. She is also a member of the Sustainability Subgroup of the Geographical Indications Committee at the International Trademark Association (INTA).

As the leader of the IP portfolio management team at the Milan office, Ginevra assists multinational and EU-based companies, primarily in the food & beverage, retail, and renewable energy sectors, with the global management of their trademark, design, and domain name portfolios. Legal 500 EMEA 2024 recognized me as a Rising Star in Food and IP.
Ginevra has extensive experience advising on re-branding strategies and the registration of traditional and non-traditional trademarks, designs, and domain names and represent clients in all administrative proceedings before trademark offices, including the General Court of the European Union.

Additionally, Ginevra serves as Pro Bono Partner for Italy, coordinating all Italian pro bono services.

In addition to being a Dame Chevalier de l’Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne, she is a member of the following associations: INTA, the Association Internationale des Juristes du Droit de la Vigne et du Vin (AIDV), and the Organisation for an International Geographical Indications Network (oriGIn).

EXPERIENCE

  • Successfully defending Protected Designations of Origin (“PDOs”) in countless cases of registration and use of evocative trade marks and in cases of the exploitation of PDOs.
  • Winning trade mark disputes both in opposition and appeal proceedings before EUIPO and the Italian Trade Mark Office.
  • Through third party observations, obtaining the refusal of trade mark applications on the grounds of descriptiveness and lack of distinctiveness.
