About

Carly Meredith is an employment and privacy law counsel for national and international organizations and ‎joint lead of the Quebec data privacy group.‎

Carly assists provincially and federally regulated employers with hiring, ‎individual and collective ‎‎terminations, performance and discipline management, the drafting and ‎implementation of employment ‎‎contracts and policies, workplace investigations, workplace health and safety, harassment and ‎‎‎discrimination complaints, and compliance with applicable French language legislation. Carly also defends ‎employers in employment ‎litigation matters.‎

On the privacy front, Carly routinely advises clients on the application of Quebec data privacy legislation, ‎which includes conducting data privacy audits, data transfer impact assessments and the review and ‎development of data processing agreements and privacy policies. ‎

Carly has extensive experience advising clients on coordinating and responding to data breaches and ‎associated reporting requirements, as well as managing follow-up correspondence with Quebec’s privacy ‎regulator. As litigation related to privacy breaches begins to become more frequent following recent ‎amendments to Quebec’s privacy legislation, Carly has been called upon on several occasions to counsel ‎on the privacy-related aspects of associated class actions.‎

A significant part of Carly’s practice also consists of advising clients on critical due diligence, integration ‎and transitional matters related to employment and privacy in the context of complex M&A transactions. ‎

Carly frequently publishes updates and news bulletins with respect to the rapidly evolving Quebec data ‎privacy and employment landscapes and regularly presents and provides training on these topics. ‎

Carly holds both a civil law and a common law degree from McGill University and has been with the firm ‎since the inception of her career in 2016. Carly is currently serving as the Vice-President of a Montreal-‎based halfway house, where she has sat on the board of directors for the past 15 years and is an active ‎member of the Irish community in Montreal. ‎
