DLA Piper's presence at COP28

A DLA Piper delegation attended COP28, held in Dubai from 30 Nov – 12 Dec, contributing to crucial discussions and advising a number of states, in the COP negotiations. Our commitment to addressing the global climate crisis was underscored through engagement in various events focusing on key aspects of the climate transition:

Business Leaders for Climate Action: In collaboration with UNHCR and Oliver Wyman, we discussed major climate displacement advocacy action points, explored the linkage between climate change and refugees, and emphasized the pivotal role of the private sector in supporting the adaptability of refugees to climate change.

Blue Finance Event: In collaboration with UNGC and AGDA, our panel of key stakeholders explored the role that public and private finance institutions can play in supporting the development of blue finance. This event highlighted the importance of sustainable financing in protecting our oceans.

COP28: Speaking a common language: We hosted a dinner with keynote speaker, Emmanuel Faber, Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board. Throughout the dinner we discussed key issues around climate, sustainability & ESG disclosure and reporting.

Transition Plans Panel Event: Partnering with the City of London Corporation, we delved into the imperative to make transition plans mandatory. We explored the global implications for businesses and gained insights from experts familiar with the policy landscape, shedding light on how these policies are manifesting in practice.

Sustainability Moot: We ran a competition for law schools across Europe, the Middle East and Africa that challenged law students to address complex issues related to sustainability and ESG. Participants engaged in a series of virtual rounds, delving into legal problems at the forefront of international sustainability discussions.

Energy Transition Dinner – We hosted a dinner to discuss the outcomes of Energy Day and the energy transition more generally.

Green Tech Conference: We hosted a Green Tech Conference featuring panel sessions on AI and Impact Investing. We championed the integration of cutting-edge technology and responsible investment practices for a sustainable future. Watch the recording of the panel discussions.

Everything, everywhere, all at once: Lawyers tackling the climate crisis – Hosted by DLA Piper on behalf of the International Bar Association, American Bar Association, Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) and Law Society of England and Wales, panellists discussed of the role of lawyers and law associations in tackling the climate crisis.

COP28 in Conversation networking event - In conjunction withThe Netherlands Business Council UAE we hosted a networking event at the residence of the Netherlands Consul General in Dubai.
