Introduction
Every year presents new challenges for our local and global communities, and every year, DLA Piper attorneys and staff rise to help address these challenges. Although it has been three years since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations and communities continue to feel the impact. Others face humanitarian crises caused by war and conflict, gender-based violence, food insecurity or natural disasters. Again and again, DLA Piper’s people have raised their hands to help.
Our firm is proud to work across the globe to promote access to justice, advance racial and gender equality, combat hunger, fight for criminal juvenile justice, support veterans, advocate for children, and help nonprofits and small businesses thrive. We have supported Afghan women in crisis, advised on international climate change negotiations, assisted Black and Indigenous entrepreneurs, and helped migrants.
This issue of our Pro Bono Bulletin highlights the firm’s extraordinary pro bono work and celebrates our shared commitment to service and justice. In North America, we are proud to have dedicated more than 117,000 hours to pro bono legal service and community engagement and grateful that this work has been recognized with over two dozen awards. All this work reflects the persistence, generosity, and spirit of so many at DLA Piper who are willing to use their time and talents to help others.

Justice Seymour Simon Award Winners
The award was created in honor of the late Justice Seymour Simon, a former DLA Piper partner and Illinois Supreme Court Justice, and is granted annually to recognize outstanding pro bono work by a team of lawyers and staff at the firm. We are honoring four projects in which teams of lawyers and professionals went above and beyond to help others.
