DLA Piper promotes David Alexandre to Intellectual Property and Technology partner in Luxembourg

DLA Piper has announced the promotion of David Alexandre to the role of partner in its Intellectual Property and Technology (IPT) group, effective 1 May 2024. David, previously counsel at the firm, joined DLA Piper in 2019 and has since demonstrated profound leadership, with notable experience spanning intellectual property, trademarks, copyrights, patents, innovation and technology.

David is among 63 lawyers to be promoted by the firm across the globe this year. His appointment takes the total number of partners in Luxembourg to eight demonstrating organic growth in the office, and a commitment to career development and promoting from within its own ranks.

He brings over a decade of experience across the technology, media, telecommunications, aerospace, sports, entertainment, life sciences, retail, consumer goods and financial services sectors. He has been instrumental in advising local and international players in these industries, consistently delivering strategies that safeguard client interests while fostering innovation.

In his new role, David will continue to leverage his deep knowledge to manage complex legal challenges in the intellectual property and technology spaces, and his game changing approach to the end-to-end management of global large-scale portfolios of IP rights and their relentless fight against counterfeits. David is also one of the firm’s champions in creating, assessing and adopting legal tech solutions, leveraging AI and novel tools both for DLA Piper and its clients.

Xavier Guzman, Country Managing Partner for Luxembourg, comments: “We are delighted to welcome David to our partnership and are proud to have him step into this role, making us the only international firm in Luxembourg with a two IPT partner team. This unique position underlines our confidence in the future and highlights our strategic focus on continued growth. David’s promotion is a testament to our commitment to innovation, and our trust in his ability to lead our clients through the evolving landscape of intellectual property and technology.”

Olivier Reisch, IPT partner at DLA Piper, adds: “Back in January 2019, when David and I joined forces to develop the IPT practice in Luxembourg, we envisioned a team that was innovative, client-focused, and driven by excellence. The promotion of David to partner is a clear indication that we are moving in the right direction. David is indeed a driven lawyer with ambitious plans for our IPT practice.”

Acknowledged as a "Rising Star" by the Legal 500 since 2020, and one of the very few individuals ranked “Gold” by the World Trademark Review in the country, David is praised by clients for his "highly knowledgeable" approach to IP management, litigation, and prosecution. He is a highly respected speaker and writer on intellectual property and technology, contributing his insights at top French postgraduate schools and various Luxembourg associations. Furthermore, he is a founding member and sits on the scientific board of the pioneering Luxembourg-based intellectual property and technology journal, "Pin Code". Finally, he is strongly committed to fighting against hate-speech and promoting diversity, advising NGOs in this respect.
